Project 3: FORM

PROJECT 3: FORM

EXPLORING A JOURNEY THROUGH THE LANDSCAPE

The first part of the task was focused upon collecting seven identical objects that can easily be moulded and sculpted to create a series of transformations.

My chosen object was a orange. I transformed seven identical oranges to match each of the transformations.

1. SUBTRACTIVE

2.ADDITIVE
3. DISTORTION

4. ASYMMETRICAL

5. SYMMETRICAL

6. FRAGEMENTATION

7. ABSTRACTION

The second part of this task was to find a few examples of the use of transformations of form that have been used by Landscape Architects around the world.

Below are some of my chosen examples:

OMBRE, Canada Archicolture
This project is an example of both an additive and subtractive transformation. The soil has been removed and in place added with planting and stones. This tranforms the site into being like an
archaeological excavation eld, with visitors being confronted with an array of identical dug out squares.

SKY MIRRORS, Itaparia Island, Bahia, Brazil X-Studio
This is an example of a subtractive formation. It is a site specific intervention, aiming to create a dialogue with nature, generated through the cyclical transformation of the sea.

AQUA SOCCER, Hamburg, Germany Topotek 1
An example of an additive transformation. The water added creates a new environment from transformed
lawn- field football to water on the town.

BOERENHOL [PARK]ING Wagon Landscaping
This project uses a mix of additive and subtractive transformations. The site was initally a car park transformed into an
experimental garden, providing an innovative and ecological solution in a world where soils are impermeable.

GREEN VARNISH, Saint Louis, USA Normad Studio The project is closely related to the social and environmental impacts of Landscape Architecture. The space is transformed through additive and distorted transformations. The project adds green space and height to the area.

Project 5: Intervention Site Survey & Analysis

The aim of this task was to choose a location for a landscape intervention. My chosen site was Twinkle Park, Deptford, the surrounding residential area and the local community space/allotments. Below are a series of diagrams that have enabled me to analysis the site and take into consideration the existing features of the site and what suitable proposals to the site there could be.  Existing Site Context Plan: Base Plan of my Site: Site Survey Overlay Plan: Strengths, Opportunities & Constraints of my site: Constraints of the Site  Strengths of the Site Opportunities of the Site Mood Board- A few ideas and inspirations to help me visualise my proposals for the site.

Project 2: ROBERTO BURLE MARX

PROJECT 2: ROBERTO BURLE MARX ROBERTO BURLE MARX: 1909-1994 He was a Brazilian Landscape Architect, as well as painter, ecologist, naturalist, artist & musician.  His designs of Parks and Gardens made him famous.  He is accredited with having introduced modernist Landscape Architecture to Brazil.  Burke Marx's work has had a great influence on tropical garden in the 20th Century. Water gardens were a popular theme of his work. He had a skill of transferring traditional artistic expressions such as graphic design, tapestry & folk art into his Landscape Design. He was one of the first people to call for the conservation of Brazils Rainforests. Illustrator Practice

Each week I spend two days working in a multidisciplinary practice, working alongside the landscape team gaining invaluable knowledge and skills on my journey to becoming a landscape architect. Today I focused on creating a constraints and opportunities diagram for a site in Croydon in which  we are working on. Using illustrator I managed to create the two diagrams below: Opportunities Diagram:  Constraints Diagram:
