5 TOP TIPS TO SAVE WATER IN YOUR GARDEN:

5  TOP TIPS TO SAVE WATER IN YOUR GARDEN:

1.      Plant a Tree

By planting 1,2 or even 3 trees in your garden it will reduce levels of C02, increase evaporation of water and help               to provide areas of shade and shelter.

         2.  Let your lawn grow.

You might not need to cut your grass as much as you think! Cutting your grass to 3 inches or longer                                improves lawn health & reduces water runoff. By letting your lawn grow you are also helping increase biodiversity              in your garden. Look out for more ladybirds, butterflies and bees!

 3. Get a water butt

Capture rainwater into tanks for use around the garden. Use the collected water for watering plants, car washing                or toilet flushing. A water butt is very cheap to buy, costing on average around £30 for a 200 Litre butt and saves             you money on your water bills in the long run, as well as helping the environment.. it is a huge win!

        4.   Plants plants plants!

Plants in your garden will help to store rainwater, increase evaporation & transpiration, so the more planting you                 can get into your garden the better. Also by choosing the right plant for the right condition will help you on                         watering too. If you know a plant needs water-logged soil, make sure you aren’t planting it in dry sandy/gritty                 soils.

        5.   Build Your Own Rain Garden!

Help to reduce flooding by planting your own rain garden. If you are feeling a bit more adventurous why not try                building your own rain garden right on your doorstep!? This will allow you introduce a wide range of plants                        (perennials) in the garden, whilst also attracting birds and insects.

Project 5: Intervention Site Survey & Analysis

The aim of this task was to choose a location for a landscape intervention. My chosen site was Twinkle Park, Deptford, the surrounding residential area and the local community space/allotments. Below are a series of diagrams that have enabled me to analysis the site and take into consideration the existing features of the site and what suitable proposals to the site there could be.  Existing Site Context Plan: Base Plan of my Site: Site Survey Overlay Plan: Strengths, Opportunities & Constraints of my site: Constraints of the Site  Strengths of the Site Opportunities of the Site Mood Board- A few ideas and inspirations to help me visualise my proposals for the site.

Illustrator Practice

Each week I spend two days working in a multidisciplinary practice, working alongside the landscape team gaining invaluable knowledge and skills on my journey to becoming a landscape architect. Today I focused on creating a constraints and opportunities diagram for a site in Croydon in which  we are working on. Using illustrator I managed to create the two diagrams below: Opportunities Diagram:  Constraints Diagram:
