NOW IS THE TIME TO ENOY YOUR GARDEN!

NOW IS THE TIME TO ENOY YOUR GARDEN!

 August

Summer is well and truly here and I think our gardens and open spaces are still feeling the affects of the heatwave all around the UK.

Now is the time to get out into your garden, sit on your balcony or go to your local park and enjoy the long evenings, as before we know it the darker nights and cooler days will be here.
The evenings are a good time,  glass in hand,  to get out and do a spot of dead-heading if you have a garden. Half an hour or so of removing any dead flowers on your roses,  geraniums, dahlias and hanging basket flowers will encourage repeat flowering and keep things looking smart. Lavender will also be in need of deadheading now, but don't let those lilac stalks go to waste!

Here are 3 ways you could use lavender in your home to avoid it going to waste:
1. Lavender Tea: Discard the stalks and boil eight parts water to three parts lavender flowers. Once boiled, add the flowers to the boiling water and leave to brew for approximately 10 minutes before drinking. (brew time will depend on the strength you like your lavender tea!)
2. Bath Salts: Allow the stalks and flower buds to fully dry out. Once dried shake the flower buds off of the stalks. Once separated discard the stalks and keep the lavender buds in a cool, dry place to sprinkle in the bath when desired.
3. Pillow Lavender: Follow the steps above, but place lavender buds into a small mesh or cheese-cloth style bag and place under your pillows for a calming effect before bedtime.

Project 5: Intervention Site Survey & Analysis

The aim of this task was to choose a location for a landscape intervention. My chosen site was Twinkle Park, Deptford, the surrounding residential area and the local community space/allotments. Below are a series of diagrams that have enabled me to analysis the site and take into consideration the existing features of the site and what suitable proposals to the site there could be.  Existing Site Context Plan: Base Plan of my Site: Site Survey Overlay Plan: Strengths, Opportunities & Constraints of my site: Constraints of the Site  Strengths of the Site Opportunities of the Site Mood Board- A few ideas and inspirations to help me visualise my proposals for the site.

Illustrator Practice

Each week I spend two days working in a multidisciplinary practice, working alongside the landscape team gaining invaluable knowledge and skills on my journey to becoming a landscape architect. Today I focused on creating a constraints and opportunities diagram for a site in Croydon in which  we are working on. Using illustrator I managed to create the two diagrams below: Opportunities Diagram:  Constraints Diagram:
