Practice Zonal Diagrams

Below are two Zonal Diagrams I have created for a project I am currently helping to work on in Tunbridge. The two diagrams show the new ecological footpath that is going to run through the a site. The site is part of an ancient woodland so this has to be taken into consideration when developing and new proposals for the existing land. The purpose of the development is to encourage the use of the woods by schools and local education groups in the surrounding areas to get children in particular enjoying the local wildlife and nature.  Above is Option 1 showing where the existing gate is and where the path will finish, but only some residents will be provided with back gardens. Option 2 proposes the idea of moving the gate further left of the original so that back gardens can be provided for all residents.

Conceptual Model Experimentation

Today we spent a short amount of time creating conceptual models, based on the idea of either SPACE, TIME, DISTANCE or MEMORY. The idea was that my model was an abstract representation of my poem.  Time & Tide  "The waves, they lap upon the shore,  in timeless motion forever more.  The moon it waxes and it wanes,  but time and tide they still remain..." Below is my quick abstract model of Time & Tide.  The model is made out of simple white card and sellotape.

Project 1: BACKGROUNDS

PROJECT 1: BACKGROUNDS This task is based on the concept of backgrounds, looking at horizon lines in particular. The first part of the task was focused on drawing parts of the horizon that are set between Greenwich and Deptford. The focus was to choose five horizon lines to sketch paying particular attention to line weights and depth of view. Task two was to photograph 5 details along the site that interest you, personally I found myself mainly intrigued by details along the riverside such as the rust and algae formations. Lastly, the third part of the task was to sit somewhere along the riverside and draw a two minute sketch focusing only on the surrounding noises that can be heard whilst keeping my eyes tightly closed.  View looking over the Greenwich Reach Foot Bridge  Sketch standing from the Old Greenwich Naval college Steps, looking over the River Thames with Canary Wharf looming in the background.  Standing from Dreadnought Wharf looking over at

TASK 4: LINE - Colour

TASK 4: LINE- Colour COLOURFIELDS The purpose of this task was to focus on the idea of layering. The aim was to represent each colour on a different layer, considering the hierarchy of the colours in the landscape.  Below are my two attempts at representing the hierarchy of colour in the landscape of my two chosen sites which I have revisited.  COLOURFIELD 1: Layer 1: Brown Layer 2: Grey  Layer 3: Blue  Layer 4: Green Final composition with the multiple layers. This view is standing from the Greenwich Reach Swing Bridge.   COLOURFIELD 2: My second colourfield is made up of 4 layers. The first layer is green, the second grey, third orange and fourth brown. This view is from standing in front of the Old Greenwich Maritime, looking over at the Isle of Dogs Foot Tunnel with Canary Wharf looming in the background.  POEM: Time & Tide "The waves, they lap upon the shore in timeless motion forevermore.

A day creating Planting Plans

PLANTING PLAN PRACTICE  Planting Plan 1 Planting Plan 2  Planting Plan 3 Planting Plan 4 These planting plans were designed as initial ideas for a project I am helping to work on based near to Stratford.

A visit to the Serpentine Galleries & Pavilion

The Serpentine  After a visit to the Serpentine it is evident how the Galleries and Pavilion have become so internationally renowned for the works displayed, inspiring so many generations. This years Pavilion was designed by Selgascano, the first architecture practice to have been invited from Spain. Characterised with colour and light, the Pavillion was designed in a beautiful style with a purpose of connecting it with nature and ensuring it fit within the landscape of the Royal Park. Selgascano’s concept behind the design was led by visitor experience, aiming to entice the public to want to explore architecture through the medium of simple forms  such as, light, colour, transparency and sensitivity.     The current exhibition displayed in the Sackler Gallery is Rachel Rose: Palisades with an interesting display of sound and videos that present humanity’s common anxieties. Her style of work and the way she captures emotions through the use of sound and video was very i

TASK 3: LINE- Movement

TASK 3: LINE - MOVEMENT   VIDEO 1: TIDAL MOVEMENT LOCATION: In front of the Maritime Greenwich Campus.  This short video captures the tidal movement of the River Thames, and the movement of the water. The video was filmed over two days, one during high tide and the other during low tide, showing the difference in pattern and force of the water crashing against the side. I have filmed the river from a variety of different angles. VIDEO 2: WILD GRASS MOVEMENT: Location: Cutty Sark & Dreadnought Wharf In this video I captured the delicate movement of wild grasses blowing in the wind. I love the smooth texture of the grass and the way they move so beautifully in the wind as a single collective.

TASK 2: LINE- Horizontal Line Exploration

Task 2: LINE- Horizontal /Biography  As part of our on going investigation into drawing straight lines, this week we focused on the use of horizontal lines. After a much inspired visit to the Agnes Martin exhibition, I realised just how powerful some compositions look from using straight horizontal or vertical lines only. Below are some of my horizontal line sketches, inspired by Agnes Martin's style. I re visited my 5 previous sites in which I drew my vertical lines, and focused this time on the horizon lines of each.  Site 1:  Location Plan The first sketch was taken looking across the River Thames onto the oppostite horizon. I was an approximate 10 minute walk away from the Stockwell building. Above is my horizontal line sketch, of the horizon across the River from me.  Site 2:  Location Plan I was an approximate 12 minute walk from the stockwell building. My sketch was focused on the flats opposite.  Site Photo Above

TASK 1A: LINE-Sense of place

TASK 1A: LINE- Sense of place Cutty Sark to Island Gardens As part of my second task I spent time studying the area around the Cutty Sark, the interior of the foot tunnel, and the Island Gardens to begin to create a sense of each place. Each 3 locations varied quiet dramatically as I discovered during my visit.  Cutty Sark: Sounds: The sounds which stood out prominently here were firstly, the sound of a local band playing to the public, laughter and chatter of children and people as well as the hustle and bustle of traffic and sirens. Here is a pencil rubbing of the paving used around the location of the Cutty Sark, along with a few descriptive words that add to the feel of the location. Examples include: Neat, Structured, Man Made, Prefabricated, Practical and Smooth.  The beautiful tall grasses captured in this photo portray a sense of calm and serenity, and add a sense of beauty to this side of the Thames.   Foot Tunnel
