PROJECT 4: THE ELEMENTS

Project 4 focuses on the concepts previously looked at in project 3, however this task aims for us to look at our chosen sites with a strong concept in mind. The project is based around the 4 elements Fire, Wind, Earth and Water and challenges us to look at our site with each concept in mind.

SITE ANALYSIS :

The small blue hearts represent pedestrian movement, the orange lines represent means of access, the green moss shows where vegetation is and the large white pipe cleaners represent tidal force.

THE FOUR ELEMENTS:

FIRE

For the concept of fire I focused on the colours that I associate with fire and fear. Through searching   for deep reds, brick oranges, browns and burnt effects I found myself noticing details  present on my site that I would have never of noticed before.

My collage for the element Fire
The college is made up of photos taken of particular details I found on my site that I associated with the colours of fire. The objects found also include elements of colour that can be linked to fire, such as the deep orange brick colour and the autumnal leaf.

Paving
I loved the deep orange, brown colours that I found beneath my feet on this particular paving stone.

Leaf
The autumnal colours on this leaf reminded me of a burnt out car.

Rust on the back of a sign pole.
I loved the colours and mix of bright oranges and yellows here and found it closely resembled lava.

WIND

My collage for the element Wind
It included photos of the effects of wind that I found present on my site, as well as cotton wool, tissue paper  and pastel colours to represent the force of wind.

The force of wind on the riverside is present here.

Here is the riverside wall, showing how the harsh impacts of wind can erode and decay the wall.

EARTH

I found that across my site the earth and material below my feet varied very much. There is a mix of sand, pebbles/shingle and mud and grass. In my collage below I tried to show the diverse types of earth present on my site and picked out a few elements of what the earth was made up of which I also added to my collage.

WATER

My collage for the element Water.
The collage represents the water cycle system, showing how the water enters the earth and how it also leaves. I have combined the use of photos but also pastel colours together to show this.

Project 5: Intervention Site Survey & Analysis

The aim of this task was to choose a location for a landscape intervention. My chosen site was Twinkle Park, Deptford, the surrounding residential area and the local community space/allotments. Below are a series of diagrams that have enabled me to analysis the site and take into consideration the existing features of the site and what suitable proposals to the site there could be.  Existing Site Context Plan: Base Plan of my Site: Site Survey Overlay Plan: Strengths, Opportunities & Constraints of my site: Constraints of the Site  Strengths of the Site Opportunities of the Site Mood Board- A few ideas and inspirations to help me visualise my proposals for the site.

Illustrator Practice

Each week I spend two days working in a multidisciplinary practice, working alongside the landscape team gaining invaluable knowledge and skills on my journey to becoming a landscape architect. Today I focused on creating a constraints and opportunities diagram for a site in Croydon in which  we are working on. Using illustrator I managed to create the two diagrams below: Opportunities Diagram:  Constraints Diagram:
