Project 5 ties in directly with the previous project.
Project 4 previously looked at the elements Fire, Earth, Water, Wind, focusing on distilling the concept of each. This project however challenged me further to explore and create 4 models each based on the four elements, with one extra being developed further.
FIRE:
Below are the photos of my model created for the concept of fire. The element of fire is represented by the bright colours and destruction on the outside of the box. The bright red/orange suggests heat, fear and passion which contrasts with the inside of the box which is cool, ice blue. Inside the box resembles life with plants growing, whereas the outside shows destruction and death.
EARTH:
My model for earth portrays the how the earth is made up of thousands of layers that have built up over time.
My model for earth portrays the how the earth is made up of thousands of layers that have built up over time.
This small jar includes layers of soil, brown sugar, white sugar, lentils and sand. |
WATER:
I represented the element of water in a more scientific way than just a concept. My small model here represents the filtrations and purification of water through the passing of different size meshes and stones. The idea of this is that you will pass dirty, muddy water through the top of the cup where the mesh filters through larger stones and mud, where it will then filter through rocks and
WIND:
The element of wind is represented through my model below. The blue plastic and wire are representing the movement of the tidal pattern which is influenced by the wind.
DEVELOPED MODEL:
This model has been developed form my Earth model, developing the layering idea further. This small pot is my proposed idea for my installation on to my site. The idea is that these planters would be at a much larger scale of 4m high and 2m wide, and would be placed along the river bed as a way of attracting people to come down on to the riverside and explore. The plants in this model are cactus' but in my real installation would have to be water plants.
